Welcome to the arrest assistance thread within Steigerwalt & Associates' Legal Chat Online forum. Our virtual community is beginning to take shape, and we've provided several options for discussion by those who choose to visit our site. Generally, these forums will serve the following purposes:
1. To provide information in regards to how to contact our firm for the legal assistance some of you may need;
2. To invite input and perspective from our visitors that may shed some light on situations that others are facing;
3. To help provide our own insight and guidance in regards to how the law is working or changing and how it could relate to your personal lives.
This thread in particular is dedicated to arrest assistance, as there are several facts to remember if you have been or are being arrested for a crime. First, be polite with the police if they are questioning you. Second, do not hesitate to invoke your Constitutional rights in this situation. You have the right to remain silent, and you have the right to an attorney, and even if you are told otherwise, these are not rights that can be denied.
When being questioned, you are almost always better off working with an attorney in regards to your statement to police, as anything you say may not only be used against you later, but the testimony regarding what was said will be detailed by you and the police, which presents a disadvantage to you in the eyes of most juries.
Regardless, we invite your input, and hope that you will contact our firm before you offer any statements to police if you've been arrested.
